Transportation, Accommodation and Maps

We look forward to welcoming you to the UK local Chapter for the SLActions conference 2010, November 18-19 at Manchester Business School.

If you have not visited MBS before, you will find this link useful for maps and directions: http://www.mbs.ac.uk/aboutus/mbs-campus.aspx. There are many links to maps, directions for public transport, parking and the MBS hotel services. Also, you can get customised directions by entering your town or postcode in the appropriate box.

Four main buildings now comprise MBS (see main map on link above), so please ensure you come to Manchester Business School West, for registration. The workshop venue is in the Harold Hankins building but registration and the MBS hotel are in MBS(West).

In addition to MBS hotel services, there are other hotels within easy walking distance at a range of prices. For a list of other hotels see:

http://www.europeanrailguide.com/destinationguides/manchester/manchester_oxford_road_train_station.php

If you arrive by train at Piccadilly Station, it will take about 20 minutes to walk from there or a short taxi ride. Outside the lower level of the station and across the road from the taxi stand is a bus stop from which the 147 bus will take you to Oxford road stops for the University, You can get off either the new Manchester Aquatics Centre, MBS East is the next building along on the corner at the road junction, (you will see the Phoenix Pub on the opposite corner, the Northern College of Music is on the same junction), cross the roads and turn right at the junction and walk down the opposite side to the Music College until you come to the end of the MBS building where the main entrance is situated.

If you miss that stop, the next stop is just under the bridge.

It is a slightly shorter distance from Oxford Road station, if your train stops there. Many buses down Oxford Road are available from the stop just across the road from Oxford Road station or a little further down outside the BBC building. Get off just before or just after the "bridge" above the Phoenix Pub (see above). Alternatively, walk straight down Oxford Road away from the town centre, passing the BBC building and MMU, until you come to the road junction just after the Manchester Aquatics Centre and MBS East, the Northern College of Music is on the same junction. Turn right at that junction and follow the directions above.

If you come by car, follow the directions to the Booth Street West multi-storey car park, which offers 24 hour parking and is accessible between 6.00am and midnight. From the airport, the taxi should cost you between £15-£20, depending on time of day, or trains depart regularly from the airport to Manchester central stations.
